Company Information
In 1976, Thomas W. Henson, Sr. and Robert L. Fuerst formed a general practice law firm, dealing mostly in title work and criminal cases. Through the 1970s, Tom and Bob saw many instances where insurance companies, hospitals, medical professionals and nursing homes took advantage of innocent injury victims. In 1983, HensonFuerst decided to concentrate exclusively on personal injury and medical malpractice cases.
In 1989, Thomas W. Henson Jr. joined the firm, and the firm expanded their geographic reach and client base through advertising. In the early 1990s, the firm handled a landmark nursing home negligence case in which a 76-year-old patient in a North Carolina nursing home was not given proper pain medication for cancer among other violations of the Patient's Bill of Rights. The jury awarded a record-setting verdict, which included compensatory damages and punitive damages. This result, along with other significant verdicts and settlements relating to healthcare deficiencies, impacts and improves the quality of care delivered to citizens of North Carolina, which continues to be the goal of HensonFuerst.
With the addition of David Henson in 1998 and Carmaletta Henson in 1999, HensonFuerst continues its commitment to and devotes its energy towards helping injured people. In 2000, HensonFuerst opened its Raleigh office from which Thomas W. Henson, Jr. will manage the nursing home litigation practice.
