Ice Creams Recalled Due to Risk of Foodborne Illness

But before you dig into the ice cream in your freezer, you should take a look at the label on the carton first. Large quantities of ice cream from several different makers are being recalled due to the risk of foodborne illness.

The Washington Post explains that one of the nation’s largest ice cream distributors, Blue Bell Creameries, has initiated a nationwide recall of all products due to potential listeria contamination. So far, illnesses from exposure have been reported in Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas.

In the wake of the Blue Bell’s recall, another company, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, also announced they would be destroying 535,000 pounds of their products and recalling all others due to the potential for listeria contamination. The actions were taken after testing of a batch of ice cream called The Buckeye State tested positive for the bacteria.

In light of these recalls, the North Carolina personal injury lawyers at HensonFuerst are encouraging consumers not only to check all ice creams they plan to consume for recalls, but also to check the expiration date. Taking these simple steps can help prevent you and your family from getting sick.
