U.S. 64 Asheboro Bypass

The Asheboro U.S. 64 bypass in Randolph County, also known as TIP Project R-2536, has been on the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) agenda since 2004. The project is funded, and final Design-Build maps will be available in late fall 2015. Right of way acquisition is slated to begin in early 2016.

The proposed bypass will be a four-lane, controlled-access (no driveways) highway, 13.7 miles long with a grassy/landscaped median that bypasses the city of Asheboro from the south. An estimated 187 homes, 34 businesses, and 1 church are slated to be condemned for the project. The right-of-way width along the new bypass will average 300 feet and will be wider at interchange locations to account for ramps.

Interchanges are included at both ends of the project on US 64 and at NC 49, I-73/74 (US 220 Bypass), NC 159, and NC 42.
