The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NDOT) is planning to widen Evans Street/Old Tar Road that connects Greenville and Winterville in Pitt County to four lanes from the intersection of Cooper Street and Worthington Road in Winterville to N.C. 43/U.S. 264A (Greenville Boulevard) in Greenville.

The proposed project would help ease traffic congestion and improve safety. Right of Way acquisition is expected to cost more than $45 million, and is expected to begin in 2019, with construction beginning in 2021.  The total cost of the project is estimated at $87.17 million.
