N.C. Department of Transportation is widening U.S. 158 from the I-95/N.C. 46 interchange west of Garysburg to the Murfreesboro Bypass. In addition to widening the road from two to four lanes, improvements will also include installing a median and rerouting parts of U.S. 158 around the communities of Garysburg, Jackson, Faison’s Old Tavern and Conway.
Currently, only Section A of the project is funded. Section A involves widening U.S. 158 between I-95, exit 46 west of Garysburg to St. John’s Church Road in Northampton County.
This project is expected to cost more than $56.8 million dollars. Right of way acquisition is scheduled to begin in Fall 2017 and construction is set to begin in December 2019.
