On May 15, 2015 the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a national recall of Takata airbags. Since then, about 34 million vehicles have gone under recall due to defective Takata airbags which can explode when deployed, causing serious injury or even death.
Currently, in the United States, 11 deaths and 184 injuries have resulted due to the faulty airbags.
This past week, 14 automakers released additional models of vehicles that have faulty airbag inflators which could pose a serious threat to drivers. The list of automakers included Ford, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Daimler Vans, Toyota, Tesla, BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Mazda, Subaru, Jaguar-Land Rover, McLaren and Volkswagen.
If you are unsure if your vehicle is affected by this recall you can go online to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and type in your 17-digit vehicle identification number, which can be found on your registration. This will let you know if your vehicle has been recalled.
If your vehicle is among those under recall due to a faulty airbag, we advise getting your vehicle repaired ASAP. Doing so is free and could prevent serious injury or even death for you and your passengers.
