The Long Term Care Community Coalition of New York is reporting selected actions taken by the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the latter months of 2008. The unit prosecutes cases of resident abuse in nursing homes. The five cases reported range from falsification of safety check records by nursing home personnel to attacking and yelling racial epithets at a resident. Facilities from across the state were cited; some of the facilities were found to have put their residents in immediate jeopardy or substandard quality of care (the most serious levels of deficiency causing harm to residents).
