North Carolina workplaces are apparently more dangerous that ever before, considering new data is showing the number of on-the-job fatalities last year doubled from the previous year’s total.
The North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) reports there were 44 workers who died on the job in our state last year. That’s a significant increase from the 23 workers who were killed in 2013.
The News & Observer reports working in the construction industry was found to be one of the most dangerous occupations one can hold in North Carolina. The industry saw the highest number of fatalities, accounting for 19 of last year’s deaths. The NCDOL also found that a majority of serious accidents that occur in North Carolina’s construction industry happen within the first two to three months of the employee beginning work on the job site.
