Poor Ratings for NC Nursing Homes

According to the Five-Star Quality Rating System for nursing homes, many North Carolina facilities aren’t doing so well. The News & Observer reports that North Carolina ranks among the the 11 states with the lowest scores.

Of the 416 nursing homes in North Carolina, 41 percent have a low quality score of 1 or 2 on a 5-point system. In neighboring South Carolina, only 32 percent got scores of 2 or lower, while in Virginia it was 36 percent.

At HensonFuerst, we handle many cases of nursing home abuse and neglect. We thought that when the rating system was implemented, that it would help to improve the quality of care given to our most vulnerable citizens. It’s heartbreaking to know that that’s not the case.

If someone you love needs full-time care in a nursing home, do your research. Watch our video titled How to Choose a Good Nursing Home.
