Upcoming Elections for NC State Judges Prove Critical

With Election Day right around the corner, the attorneys at Henson Fuerst find themselves fielding many questions about candidates who are running for the NC Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

For those that are not heavily involved in the legal system, it’s understandable that you may find yourself wondering which individuals you should consider voting for, and more importantly, why you should even care.

Voting for those who will preside over our judicial system is so important because our judges and the system that they uphold is one of three equal branches of government intended to protect our citizens.

As a checks and balances system, the U.S. government looks to judges to uphold our rights under the U.S. Constitution, interpret the law, protect state citizens from overreach by other branches of government (legislative and executive), and ensure that our democracy is upheld in a healthy manner.

Since state judges are elected by state citizens, rather than them simply being appointed, we have a lot of power to decide who we want to fulfill that responsibility.

This year, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ), a non-partisan organization of more than 2,500 lawyers across the state, endorses the following candidates:

As proud members of the NCAJ, with our attorney-partner, David Henson serving as the organization’s president this year, we strongly encourage you to visit voteyourcourtnc.org. Here, you can learn about each candidate endorsed by NCAJ and get information on how to make sure you’re registered to vote, how to request a mail-in ballot, and much more.
