Salmonella Foodborne Illness Outbreak At Fayetteville Hotel

May 30, 2013

A total of 88 people have reported developing a Salmonella infection after eating at a Fayetteville, North Carolina, hotel in early May 2013. The Foodborne Illness has left five of those victims requiring hospitalization.

An article released by WRAL News explains that the cases of contamination first started coming to light last Tuesday after the Cumberland County Health Department received reports from 16 people that they had become ill after eating at the two restaurants located in the Holiday Inn Bordeaux.

Medical testing showed these individuals were suffering from a Salmonella infection, a bacteria that is spread through contaminated food or water. Those who are infected will experience fever, cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, among other symptoms. Most who suffer an infection will recover within several days, but some may require hospitalization and antibiotics to ward off the infection.

Those who have been infected have been instructed to contact the county health department to report the issues.

Such an incident leaves many people wondering what they should do to protect themselves. The North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyers with HensonFuerst explain the most important thing to do is seek the medical care you need first and foremost. Then, the incident should be reported and evidence of the infection should be documented. Finally, anyone who has suffered a foodborne illness should discuss their legal rights and options with a qualified attorney.
