Takata Doubles Recall of Defective Airbags

Over the past several months, an estimated 17 million vehicles were recalled after it was discovered they were equipped with defective airbags manufactured by Japan-based company, Takata Corp. Earlier this week, the company stated they were doubling the number of vehicles recalled due to the faulty parts to approximately 34 million cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Keeping up with the makes and models affected by the recall has proven difficult for many car owners and buyers, and a thorough list of recalled vehicles has yet to be submitted to federal safety agencies. The New York Times reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration believes it may take several more days to compile a list.

In the mean time, officials suggest checking safecar.gov to see if any information is available for your car’s make and model. Some citizens have already scheduled appointments with licensed repair centers to have their airbags inspected. With so many vehicles needing these specific parts replaced, it could take time to get replacement airbags for your vehicle.

If you are injured as the result of defective airbags deploying in a crash, the North Carolina defective product lawyers at HensonFuerst suggest speaking with a legal representative immediately. Doing so can help ensure your rights are protected.
