Upcoming Summit Will Focus on Reducing North Carolina Bicycle Accidents

North Carolina officials are concerned over the state’s increasing number of collisions between bicycles and motor vehicles. The North Carolina Department of Transportation states 23 individuals lost their lives as a result of North Carolina bicycle accidents in 2012—the last year data was collected. That’s a 4.5 percent increase from the previous year’s total.

To help make our state’s roadways safer for cyclists, hundreds of bicycle advocates will attend the North Carolina Bicycle Summit taking place in Greensboro next month. An article from the Greensboro News & Record explains the event will bring together government officials, top developers from around the nation, and the region’s bicycle enthusiasts to discuss what can be done to improve our state’s infrastructure for those pedaling on two wheels.

The event will kick off on Oct. 10 and will continue to host sessions on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro until Oct 12. Tickets to attend the summit can be purchased for $75 until Monday. The price will then increase to $100 until the summit begins. For those on a budget who wish to get in on the action, there are two free group rides that will take place to close the summit out on Oct 12.

At HensonFuerst, our North Carolina personal injury lawyers recognize the importance of focusing on bicycle safety in our state, and we encourage anyone interested in making our roads a less dangerous place to ride to consider attending this event.
