Project#I-5111, I-4739
Type: Road Widening
Affected Counties: Wake and Johnston
In 2015 alone, an estimated 35.6 million vehicles traveled from Raleigh to the I-40/N.C. 42 interchange in Clayton, making this road susceptible to frequent delays and congestion. By 2040, traffic is expected to increase by 65% which will lead to worsening conditions and heavier traffic.
In order to improve traffic flow, The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is planning to widen this 12-mile stretch of road. In addition to easing congestion, this would also make travel safer in this heavily trafficked area.
